Vasti Ayurveda Therapies

KATI VASTI



The waist area of the body is called Kati. Vasti in this case implies a container. Kati vasti is an effective therapy of Ayurveda for Katisula, which is the term for lower backache or stiffness or pain felt down the back.

In Kati Vasti Therapy,

  • The patient is made to lie face down on the droni table.
  • A circular/ rectangular reservoir made of black gram dough is built up on the lower back, around the lumbo-sacral area
  • After ensuring that this is leak-proof, lukewarm medicinal oil, which alleviates pain and strengthens the bone tissues, is slowly poured into it.
  • The oil and the receptacle are kept on for about half an hour.
  • The oil is maintained at particular temperature.
  • After removing them, the affected area may be gently massaged with the same oil. The patient is then made to take rest for a short while.

The duration last anywhere from 30-45 minutes according to prevailed condition.

  • After ensuring that this is leak-proof, lukewarm medicinal oil, which alleviates pain and strengthens the bone tissues, is slowly poured into it.
  • The oil and the receptacle are kept on for about half an hour.

  • After removing them, the affected area may be gently massaged with the same oil. The patient is then made to take rest for a short while.

Time duration lasts between 30 – 40 minutes depending on the condition being dealt with.

SHIRO VASTI



In Ayurveda “shir” means “head” and shiro vasti is a localized therapy where Medicated oil is poured into the compartment which is made to fix in the head. Shiro vasti provides nourishment, strength and refreshment to the head and associated parts.

In Shiro Vasti Therapy

  • In shiro vasti medicated oil is allowed to stay on the patient’s head for a while using some kind of container.
  • In shiro vasti, a leather cap of about six to eight inches in height is kept on the shaven head of the patient and a headband tied.
  • Then kneaded dough of black gram flour is used to line the inside of the cap.
  • Oil is then poured into the cap and kept on the head for a while.
  • The patient feels calm and relaxed during the procedure and also feels light after the treatment is over
  • The oil is kept for at least 30 minutes for better and long-term effects.
